If you connect the V-8HD's program HDMI Output 1 connector to a display device and you do not see an image, use this guide to troubleshoot.
PGM (short for Program), is the primary output that contains the video input that is lit red on the crosspoint (the rows of input buttons), as well as any PinP (Picture in Picture) and DSK (Downstream Key) overlays on top of it.
Getting Everything Ready
If you have not already, connect a camera to HDMI Input 1.
Look at the built-in screen on the V-8HD, you should see the multi-view. Does the camera appear in the HDMI 1 box?
If not, the video resolutions do not match. Check this setting in the menu:
- Menu > 19: System > System Format > 1080p
- This setting works well with most equipment
- 1080i and 1080p sources are interchangeable
- 720p is only recommended if your sources connected to inputs 1-6 are 720p

- Also, you do not have to worry about frame rates, because the V-8HD automatically converts them.
Next, is your camera also 1080p? If you are not sure, on the V-8HD, check this setting in the menu to confirm:
- Menu > 1: Video Input > HDMI 1 > Input Status > [ENTER]
If the camera appears in the HDMI 1 box, press the A1 button to select it as your source and the input button will turn red.
If the buttons turns green instead of red, press B1 as well, and that button will turn red.
At this point, you should see the source connected the HDMI Input 1 on the display connected to HDMI Output 1. If not, try a different display, if possible.
If none of your displays work, try the following:
Output Fade
Check that the Output Fade knob on the left section of the V-8HD is at 12'o'clock:
HDCP
Turn off HDCP in the System menu:
DVI-D
Adjust this setting in the menu:
- Menu > 2: Video Output > Output 1 > Output DVI-D/HDMI > DVI-D
- This setting works well with some older displays and projectors
- Note that DVI-D signals do not carry embedded audio
FIRMWARE UPDATE
Update the firmware to the latest version:
OUTPUT ASSIGN
If you still do not see video on HDMI Output 1, check this setting in the menu:
- Menu > 2: Video Output > Output 1 > Output Assign > Program
- This is the default setting
If you still do not see video on HDMI Output 1, check this setting in the menu:
- Menu > 2: Video Output > Output 2 > Output Assign > Preview
- This is the default setting
- Press the B1 input button if you have not already
- Turn off the V-8HD
- Remove the cable from Output 1 and move it to Output 2
- Turn on the V-8HD
- Does the Output connector work now?
If the display device is working, there may be an issue with the Output 1 connector.
If neither output works, check that your display device supports HD video. Most every television and monitor today should work.
Some older computer monitors may not work because they have limited support for HD video formats.
FACTORY RESET
Last, you can try to reset all your settings with a factory reset:
- Menu > 19: System > Factory Reset > [ENTER]
