Congratulations on becoming a Roland TD-50 VIP performer!
This information will guide you through loading the VIP data into your TD-50 module.
To install the data, you will need the following:
- TD-50 formatted SD or SDHC Card (card sizes up to 32GB are compatible)
- SD card reader for the computer
- Downloaded TD-50 VIP files
Please note: The TD-50 VIP kits and data are compatible with the TD-50 module only.
The download includes the option to either install the entire VIP contents all at once from a backup(recommended), or as individual kits/samples/songs.
Caution: Loading this data will permanently erase any user or custom settings that you have made in your TD-50. If there are user settings that you want to keep, be sure to perform a backup to the SD card before proceeding. Click this link for backup instructions:

Preparing the SD Card:
Before transferring the artist data to the SD card, the SD card must be formatted in the TD-50 first. (Note that formatting the SD card will permanently delete any content or files that may be present on the SD card. Be sure to backup any data on the SD card that you want to save to the computer before proceeding with these Steps).
- Turn on the TD-50's power.
- Insert the SD Card into the TD-50's SD card slot on the side panel.
- Press the SD CARD button.
- Press the PAGE DOWN button until you access PAGE 3.
- Press the F3 button (FORMAT). "This will clear the SD Card" appears.
- Press F5 (FORMAT).
- Cursor right to highlight "OK," and then press ENTER.
- Eject the SD card from the TD-50's card slot.
Transferring the Artist Data to the SD card:
- Insert the SD card into your card reader on the computer.
- Locate the downloaded TD-50_VIP folder on your computer and then click to open it. You will see the following folders: EXPORT, IMPORT, PLAYALONG, ROLAND.
- Copy the IMPORT, PLAY ALONG and ROLAND folders from the computer to the root directory the SD card. (Note, the root directory is the upper most level of the SD Card. Do not copy the folders directly into any of the individual folders on the SD card).
- If/when prompted to "replace the existing folder on the card?," click OK. Doing this will replace the original TD-50 folders that were on the SD Card.
- Eject the SD card from the computer and insert it back into the TD-50's card slot.
To Load the Entire Backup - (All Kits, Samples, and Settings at once):
- Press the SD CARD button on the TD-50.
- Press F2 (LOAD).
- Confirm that the "With User Sample" block has a check mark. If not, turn the dial clockwise to add the check mark.
- Press F5(LOAD).
- Cursor right to highlight "OK," and then press ENTER. "Processing. . ." appears in the display. The load process takes approximately 3 minutes. When it's finished, "Complete" will appear briefly in TD-50's display and then you'll return to the SD Card Load menu.
To Load Individual Kits:
- Press the SD Card button.
- Press the PAGE DOWN button to select page 2 for the SD CARD BACKUP screen.
- Press F2 (1 KIT LOAD).
- Cursor to highlight the "SD Card" kit, and then turn the dial to choose the Kit you want to load.
- Cursor down once to highlight the user kit (this is the destination where the kit will be copied to).
- Turn the dial to choose a Kit location that you want to load the kit to.
- Press F5 (LOAD).
- Cursor right to highlight "OK," and then press ENTER.
- Repeat Steps 4-8 to load any other kits as desired.
- Press the KIT button when you're finished. The new kits will be loaded into the location(s) you chose in Step 5.
To Play the VIP Play Along Songs:
- Confirm the SD card is inserted into the TD-50.
- Press the SONG button.
- Press F2 (SD CARD).
- Turn the dial to choose a Song that you'd like to play.
- Press the Play/Stop button.
- When you're finished, press Play/Stop button again.
